Leon is the second largest city of Nicaragua, after the capital of Managua, the administrative center of the Leon department. As of 2016, the population of Leon Municipality was 206,264. Leon is located along the Rio Chiquito River, about 90 km northwest of Managua and about 18 km from the Pacific coast.
