Singapore was founded as a city of emigrants, grew as a city of emigrants, and has remained one to this day. Their cultures and habits have converged, mixed and enriched each other – but have slowly acquired a Pan-Asiatic heartbeat that symbolises the birth of a new nationality – Singaporeans. People often say that Singapore is a synthesis of East and West – and there's much that's true in that.

As a nation state, Singapore has been built on the principle of a meritocracy, in which the best and brightest - regardless of racial background, religion, or socio-economic status – get the highest salaries. Everyone has access to education, to better themselves and get the chance for a high quality of life.

The exceptionally high education standards in Singapore, and the nation's care and development of its cultural heritage are distinguishing characteristics of the country today.  As one of the most economically developed and prosperous nations in Asia, it's a country well able to extend invitations to leading global figures in the world of culture. One of Singapore's most notable cultural areas is its cuisine – a mixture of native traditions of cookings. Another of Singapore's most notable cultural achievements is the national tradition of landscape gardening and parks.
