The city of Granada today is one of the most visited and favorite tourist cities of Nicaragua. Granada is the capital of the Department of Granada, which borders Boaco and Managua in the north, Masaya and Carazo in the east and Rivas in the south. In the same department, the Tipitapa River, which connects Lake Managua and Nicaragua, passes through the northern part of the river. It also has three volcanic lagoons; Manares, Genisaro and the famous Apoyo. Apoyo, shared with the Masaya department, is Nicaragua's largest volcanic lagoon.
