Islands Of Granada
Not far from Granada are Isletas de Granada, islets that formed after the eruption of Mombacho volcano.
Many of the islets are privately owned. On them are houses or hotels. Some islands are for sale.
This is a popular destination for tourists and locals. The main entertainment is riding in small boats along the picturesque channels between the islands. People who enjoy outdoor activities can rent a kayak.
Lake Nicaragua is home to a wide variety of birds, the observation of which is quite interesting.
You can also watch local fishermen casting nets.
The historic landmark is the ruins of the Spanish fort of San Pablo, which served in the 18th century to protect Granada from the British pirates who climbed the San Juan River from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Nicaragua and attacked Spanish cities.
On one of the small islands monkeys live, who gladly accept treats from tourists.
