Khammouane

Khammouane’s area is mostly made up of wooded mountains – with many caves that are worth a visit. One of them is Kong Lor , the most famous cave in Laos, with an underground river running for more than 7.5 kilometres. A large area of the province is covered by three National Parks, which make up a protected environmental area. The largest hydro-electric generating facility in Laos is also located here, which has been putting out electricity since 2010 – built on the Nam Theun River. In addition to supply domestic needs, the Nam Theun station also exports electricity supplies to neighbouring countries.
