Changi Airport
Establishing Singapore's own national airline was one of the core priorities of the Singaporean government, and a personal triumph for Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Today Singapore Airlines is based out of Singapore Changi Airport – one of the largest airports in Asia, and throughout the world.
Changi Airport is Asia's largest international air hub. The airport has won many international awards, and has been acclaimed as Best Airport In The World for the past three years. Airline experts are amazed at the airport's high-tech facilities, which enable it to handle a throughput of nearly two million tonnes of cargo each year – in addition to servicing the needs of the four-and-a-half million passengers who pass through its terminals every month! But as passengers we are more inclined to appreciate the style of the eye-popping interiors and quality of service.
The airport's three terminals are like a small city, including such facilities as cinemas, galleries, and children's play areas. One special attraction are the flower gardens with live orchids.
The Butterfly Garden
The Butterfly Garden is always popular with children and adults alike. Hundreds of multicoloured butterflies can be seen perching on the leaves or flying around throughout the two-storey high area, which has its own small waterfall. However, not every passenger gets to see it – since the butterflies sleep at night.
