Tiong Bahru is a huge built-up area in Singapore. It was built in the late art-deco style, which was known in Britain as 'streamline moderne' in the 1930s. Tiong Bahru was considered an elite housing area for many year. The carefully-planned apartments, with elements of exterior decoration in softened curved lines. It was housing for the well-heeled.
The market built here at Tiong Bahru was the first covered market in any of Singapore's residential areas. Nowadays completely different regions cater to the elite housing market, yet Tiong Bahru remains a place which inquisitive tourists enjoy visiting.
