The museum is housed in the former building of a C19th Missionary School. The museum opened anew here in 1996, as the first collection of painting and contemporary art in the country. The displays are continuously updated and renewed, and the works on display feature not only those of living Singaporean artists, but also those of artists from the entire SE Asian region.
