Ometepe is an island formed by two volcanoes Maderas and Concepcion rising from Lake Nicaragua. The island was inhabited by tribes in ancient times, before BC, and in the 16th century came under Spanish control. Today, tourism and ecotourism are developing on Ometep, thanks to the archaeological past of the island and the wealth of its natural reserve with exotic vegetation, animals and birds.
