Luang Namtha
Luang Namtha is a popular tourist destination and a base for Cycling trips to the surrounding villages.
The city was severely damaged by the floods in the 1970's In 1976 to 7 km above built a new city. As a result, modern Luangnamtha consists of two widely separated parts: the old city and the new city. There are in Luang Namtha hotels and guest houses, cozy little cafes, as well as offices of many small tourist companies.
The Night Market is the main nightlife activity, and popular with tourists.
The Luang Namtha stupa is situated at the periphery of the town – put up in 2009 by donations from private companies in the town, and individuals. It copies the style of the That Luang stupa in Vientiane. The names of the donors who raised the money are inscribed on the wall.
The beautiful sculptures by the entrance to the temple symbolise the three principle ethnic groups of Laos.
