Pinatubo Volcano is best known for its powerful eruption in June 1991. It is believed that this was the second most powerful volcanic eruption in the 20th century, and in terms of the amount of ash released into the atmosphere, in second place in recent history, after the eruption of the volcano Krakatau. The 1991 eruption developed gradually, so tens of thousands of people were evacuated, but still, 847 people died. Most are due to the collapse of roofs under the weight of volcanic ash. Also, the eruption caused significant damage to the agriculture of the region, many villages were destroyed.
