Almost in the center of the lake is an island with the Taal volcano, which is considered one of the smallest active volcanoes on earth. During the eruption of 1911, 1335 people died, and in 1965 - 200. The last eruption took place in 1977. The modern crater of Taal volcano is filled with water. The volcano is actively visited by tourists. The Lake Taal Basin in 1967 is declared the Taal Volcano National Park.
